Book Club chapter 3

Commenting on "A Whole New Mind". Being an artist as well as a gifted educator,I was pleasently surprised to have someone comment on how art (creativity) effects all aspects of the buisness world. What I didn't know was that MFA's were harder to get than a law degree. As the buisness world changes so does education. Art (design) should be included across the curriculum. Let me know your thoughts??

  1. I have read studies that Art and Music open areas in the mind during Early Childhood. Some studies even state that early exposure to these areas help children learn and comprehend at earlier ages.

  2. Teresa, I believe that the fine arts go hand in hand with other learning. Students have an easier time remembering specific facts if they are tied to a song or rhyme, or some kind of movement. There are great songs out there for science, and I've used them to help students learn the concepts I introduced. Also, kinesthetic movement is another great way to solidify learning. We just need to think in new ways so we can help our students with a variety of learning modes.

  3. This isn't funny but it kind of is... I laughed and teased Julie Huskey when she told me that she was moving from the classroom into a Reading/Writing Art position but now I'm the fool! It's genius. Why isn't this position being made across the board at all the elementary's? If this is the way the world is going why is Eagle Mountain the only school beginning to follow suit?
